Hope

In a year of the great sports documentary (“The Last Dance”), and being what should have been the second week of Wimbledon, I stumbled across this 2018 Tennis Channel documentary “Strokes of Genius” about the supposed greatest tennis match of all time – the 2008 Final between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. There was a moment in the doco that really spoke to me. Speaking about Federer’s struggles before he was a superstar, his coach said “It’s difficult for an artist when he has a desire to express himself, and he knows how to express himself, but he can’t actually express himself the way he wants to.” So for all those out there who are struggling to express themselves, or even struggling to wade through the uncomfortable time we are in…there is hope. Perhaps not Federer-esque hope…but there is hope. I also highly recommend watching the full doco, which basically (through interviews with Federer, Nadal, Borg, McEnroe, Evert and Navratilova) says we need other people to make us better humans.
